Poverty is arguably the number one problem in the world today. This much is already known as indicated in available World Bank and other relevant institutional records. Traversing the rural communities through my grassroots involvement in the Nigerian political process affords me the unique opportunity to appreciate the import of poor standard of living among rural dwellers. A huge number of people depend on the benevolence of others for survival.
Growing up with my siblings under the unique positive influence of my Father, Ide Gilbert Onyemaelu Okeke, I witnessed the good times and the bad times. More importantly, I observed how my father navigated the oceanic waves of life through simplicity and contentedness.
His love for education propelled him to take the bold step of funding the education of his younger sister up to Teachers Grade II level. His sister (late) by this, became the 2nd teacher in the whole of Ihioma Clan, which is now made up of 6 autonomous communities.

His exemplary generosity – materially and in-kind – traversed beyond kith and kin. He was amongst the donors (in pounds sterling) of the take-off funds for the construction of Regina Pacis Parish Catholic church building in Ihioma, Orlu LGA of Imo state. Due to his forthrightness, the relief materials being supplied by Caritas Foundation during the Nigerian - Biafra civil war were stored for safekeeping and distribution in his country home.
Living with my father for the most part of my young life; harnessing over 23 years of work experience - mostly in blue chip – companies; leveraging on considerable opportunities provided by active involvement in the leadership of people and organizations; exploiting learnings from educational attainment locally and globally, have shaped my outlook on life and the imbibition of simplicity, Courage, Character, and Service – just as Ide.
I have had ups and downs. I have come to know what it means to support people in need. I have also come to know what it means to be supported when in need. This needs to support the vulnerable, as well as contribute to the advancement of Nigeria society through citizens’ and leadership engagement, informed the institution of Augustine Elochukwu Okeke (AEO) Foundation.
